RCI on Batu Puteh agreed by Cabinet

PETALING JAYA: A royal commission of inquiry (RCI) to investigate matters concerning the sovereignty of Batu Puteh, Middle Rocks, and South Ledge will be established.

Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali said cabinet has agreed to the RCI, which would be comprised of individuals with vast expertise in the sectors of justice, law, and public administration.

In a statement, Zuki said the inquiry was established in line with the Commission of Inquiry Act 1950, whereby the proposed membership of the RCI will be submitted for the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's approval.

"The RCI members are expected to conduct the investigation transparently, fairly, and impartially to avoid any issues involving conflict of interest with the relevant parties."
