PUTRAJAYA: The government will establish a technical committee on laws pertaining to online crime.
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the committee would, among other things, comprise his ministry, Digital Ministry and the Legal Affairs Division under the Prime Minister's Department.
"The cabinet has agreed on this based on feedback on the (rampant) illegal activities including sales of drugs , online gambling and distribution of porn videos," he told a press conference at the ministry today.
Fahmi, who is the unity government spokesman, said it would study existing laws and those in other countries that are appropriate to be applied in Malaysia.
This was to protect the people's safety, especially children using the Internet, he said.
