PUTRAJAYA: The public have been advised to remain vigilant to prevent the spread of Covid-19, especially during the upcoming Chinese New Year celebration.
Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said although there had been a downward trend in the number of local infections, the public should continue practising preventive measures.
"We are not worried (of a spike in cases), but we must be careful. We are still using the same standard operating procedures that we have normalised.
"If you are unwell or are coughing, protect others by putting on a mask," he said after his 2024 mandate speech at the Health Ministry here, today.
He also reminded the public to take caution when and avoid the 3Cs - crowded places, confined spaces, and close conversations.
While emphasising the importance of not being complacent, Dr Dzulkefly also said it was equally important to not let it disrupt the people's livelihoods.
"Like influenza, H1N1, we will have to live with the virus. When there is a risk of infection, take the responsibility to isolate and expose yourselves from vulnerable groups, or those with comorbidities, cancer survivors, or the immunocompromised," he added.
Based on data on the Health Ministry's KKMNow website, there are 15,648 active Covid-19 cases in the country.
Of the total, 97.6 per cent were observing home quarantine.
