Harimau Malaya superfan Derrick to get new motorcycle from used bike dealer

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Asian Cup football superfan, Derrick Gan, who sold his motorcycle to pay for his trip to Qatar, will be gifted a motorcycle upon his return by a used motorcycle dealer.

"I'm sincere and I can't wait to personally hand over the motorcycle (to Derrick) when I return from Sarawak this Sunday (tomorrow)," said Ahmad Alhafiz Najmi, 33, the owner of Ahmad Motorworks.

Ahmad said he was touched by Derrick's efforts of making the trip to Qatar to show his support for the national team in the 2023 Asian Cup.

"For me, he shows patriotism and love for the country. In fact, I consider him to represent the voice of other Malaysians," he told Harian Metro.

"I am the type who easily sympathises with others. When I found out that Derrick was selling his motorcycle to raise funds to go to Qatar, without hesitation, I wanted to give him the motorcycle as a replacement.

"Since I already sell used motorcycles, this is a gift from me. I really want to help, and this is not just empty talk," he added.

He said that he will gift Derrick with a Honda RS150 motorcycle, estimated to be worth RM6,000, who had previously sold his Yamaha Lc135 5s.

Currently, Ahmad is in Sarawak and will handover the motorcycle to Derrick when he gets back to the peninsula on Sunday.

"I've asked my staff to contact him. I'm still in Sarawak now, but God willing, I'll be back in the peninsula on Sunday.

"On Monday, I have work, so I'll arrange the delivery on Tuesday. We'll complete the transfer of ownership and registration. If Derrick wants to sell this motorcycle later, there won't be any issues. It will be his own property.

Ahmad also thanked the public for helping to spread the word online.

"Thank you everyone. This is Derrick's 'rezeki' (blessing from God). For me, Derrick shouldn't only be praised; he deserves appreciation," he said.

Earlier, Derrick drew attention when he shared that he was selling his motorcycle to raise funds to go to Qatar.

Moreover, he became viral after crying when Malaysia tied 3-3 against South Korea in the final match of Group E, Asian Cup, on Thursday (Jan 25).
