Penang City Council wins fourth consecutive ASEAN Clean Tourist City Award

PENANG: The Penang City Council has been recognised for its efforts once again after it secured the prestigious ASEAN Clean Tourist City Award for the fourth consecutive year, this time for the period of 2024 to 2026. This victory follows previous triumphs for the periods of 2018 to 2020, 2020 to 2022, and 2022 to 2024.

According to the city council in a Facebook post on Jan 27, the award was received by city council member Tan Soo Siang and senior assistant environmental health officer Taufik Junik at the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2024 held from Jan 22 to 27 in Vientiane, Laos.

"This victory proves that the Penang Island City Council is committed to making Penang a smart, green, and comfortable state in line with the Penang State Government's vision of 'Penang2030: A Smart, Green State Driven by a Robust Economy'.

"This success is also the result of continuous collaboration and cooperation with stakeholders, non-governmental organisations, associations, communities, and all the people of Penang who share the same goal of making cleanliness on the Pearl of the Orient renowned worldwide in the tourism aspect," said the council in its post.
