No amnesty plan for traffic offences by Kota Kinabalu City Hall, says new mayor

KOTA KINABALU: Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) has no plan to grant amnesty for traffic offences on the city's 24th anniversary on Thursday, said newly minted mayor Datuk Seri Dr Sabin Samitah.

"So far, DBKK has no plans to grant an amnesty. If we were to eliminate the penalties or fines that we imposed, this may create a sense of unfairness to those who have adhered to the laws.

"But what we can offer them is when they settle outstanding payments, whether it's fines or compounds, we might consider providing a reduction in terms of penalties," he said at a press conference after a media appreciation dinner last night.

Sabin also said the same applied to taxes for residents under DBKK areas and that they have to settle their arrears accordingly.

"Before urging them to make payments, I want to assure them that we will make every effort to provide good services so that they feel their payments are fair for the services provided by DBKK.

"In the case of arrears, we urge them to make payments either online or visit the council office or designated payment centres."

Meanwhile, he said DBKK aims to become the most preferred state government agency in the future.

"One initiative to achieve this aspiration is to instil a sense of urgency among DBKK officers and staff, ensuring services are at a high, efficient and transparent level."

Present were the director-general Junaina Abbe, Sabah Journalists Association president Datuk Muguntan Vanar, several authors and journalists from the print and electronic media, as well as the heads of DBKK departments.
