Gerakan congratulates newly sworn in 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong

KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Gerakan Malaysia (Gerakan) has extended its congratulations to the newly sworn in King, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim.

Its president Datuk Dr Dominic Lau said the party expresses profound respect and high regard for the inauguration of His Majesty as the 17th King of Malaysia, earlier today.

"With confidence in his leadership, Gerakan believes that His Majesty will steer the country towards prosperity and unity.

"As a long-standing political party, Gerakan emphasises its commitment to upholding the Federal Constitution, considering it a fundamental guide for the party's direction.

"We hope that His Majesty will govern the diverse populace with justice and fairness, and we extend our prayers for the prolonged health of His Majesty and the Queen," he said.

He also expressed gratitude and homage to His Majesty the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, and Her Majesty Raja Permaisuri, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, for their service and dedication during the five-year reign.

Today, Sultan Ibrahim was sworn in as the new King in a ceremony steeped in tradition at Istana Negara.

At the same ceremony, Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah, took the oath of office as the Deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Sultan Ibrahim was elected as the 17th King at the 263rd (Special) Meeting of the Conference of Rulers in October last year, which also saw Sultan Nazrin elected as Deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Sultan Ibrahim replaces Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, who completed his reign as the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong yesterday.
