Malaysian NGOs unite for Global Day of Action: Urgent call for ceasefire in Israel-Palestine conflict

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Pro-Palestine non-governmental organisations (NGOs) will be holding a Global Day of Action for Gaza on Jan 13 to call for the immediate ceasefire on the Israel-Palestine conflict.

In a statement, Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions Malaysia (BDS Malaysia) said that along with 30 other pro-Palestine organisations, they would rally near the US embassy in Jalan Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur to demand a stop to the atrocities committed by Israeli forces in Palestine.

The rally is expected to begin at noon until 3pm.

"Israel's genocidal war on Gaza has now killed over 20,000 Palestinians with thousands more missing and presumed dead under the rubble of their own homes.

"It has left 1.7 million displaced, sheltering where they can and are suffering from famine, and facing an outbreak of major epidemics.

"The international community is failing to act by demanding that Israel cease its assault and lift the siege to bring the slaughter to an end and ensure urgent humanitarian aid can be brought to the people of Gaza," it said.

As such, BDS Malaysia said, The Global Day of Action for Gaza is needed to intensify the pressure in demanding a permanent ceasefire across the globe.

"Across the world, the solidarity movement has acted to mobilise millions of people to the streets demanding a permanent ceasefire. We need to intensify this pressure by coordinating actions around the world.

"Therefore, we call for a day of action for Gaza on Jan 13 and support the call from Palestinian civil society to unite to call for a permanent ceasefire, to stop the Gaza Genocide, to end the occupation and dismantle Israeli apartheid."
