Perodua agrees to buy Nagakanni's Bezza at full price

KUALA LUMPUR: A clerk in Segamat who expressed her frustration after her Perodua Bezza broke down less than eight hours after she received her car, will finally have her problem resolved.

The manufacturer of the vehicle, Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua) has agreed to purchase the vehicle from her at full price.

The owner of the car, Nagakanni Subramaniam shared this in a Facebook post on Friday night.

Nagakanni, 31, bought the car from a vehicle sales centre in Segamat, on Oct 17.

Almost eight hours later at 7.40pm, the car could not start.

With the latest development she will no longer have to pay the monthly installments for the car and the previous payments will be refunded.

"Perodua has agreed to buy back my car at full price.

"With this decision, I no longer have to pay for the old car and all previous payments will be refunded.

"Perodua also offered me to purchase a second car with the same monthly loan rate or I can reject this offer and buy another car.

"I have to make a decision in seven days. Thank you Perodua for this decision," she said in the post.

Previously, Nagakanni took to social media to express her frustration on having to pay the monthly loan of the vehicle amounting to RM537 per month, even though the vehicle was damaged and lying at the service centre.

"On Oct 18, I took my car to a service centre in Segamat, and the mechanic there informed me that the engine was damaged.

"Following the incident, I applied for a replacement for a new car before being asked to wait for a decision from its headquarters, which could take two weeks to a month.

Perodua had contacted her and notifed her that based on their initial investigation, the car's engine was damaged by foreign matter such as sugar.

On Wednesday, Perodua Sales chief operating officer J.H. Rozman Jaafar in a statement said Perodua has conducted a comprehensive investigation regarding the issue and gave his assurance that they would prioritise the case.

Nagakanni expressed her gratitude to netizens who supported her in her efforts to claim her rights as a consumer.

"Most importantly, thank you to everyone who helped me claim this right. I am indebted to you.

"The struggle to claim our rights from big companies is not easy, especially for me, a clerk who is just like an ant.

"But I learned something.

"Even if we are as small as ants, if we unite regardless of colour and race, we will succeed. Finally, because of sugar, the ants have united," she said.
