PUTRAJAYA: The country's digital programmes must be implemented aggressively and drastically to ensure the country is not left behind, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
He said the Digital Ministry was set up for that purpose.
"I had formed a specific ministry (for digital) as I don't think Malaysia can compete efficiently with other countries without focus in the digital field.
"As I've also mentioned to our friends in Jakim (Malaysian Islamic Development Department), it also involves our values; digital is a new tool that emphasises on new technology, but we must remain grounded," he said in his speech at the Prime Minister's Department assembly today.
He also stressed the importance of mastering Bahasa Melayu while emphasising on the command of the English language.
He said the education sector should no longer follow the "old mould."
Earlier, he said ministries will be required to submit monthly reports on their performance and contributions in monitoring the progress of project implementations.
"There should be clear progress every month and your contribution either in making this country a Madani government or Madani economy and the policies that we've drawn up in energy transition, digital transformation or industrial plan and mid-term review of the Malaysia Plan."
