Prasarana must blacklist underperforming contractors - Loke

KUALA LUMPUR: Prasana Malaysia Berhad (Prasana) has to blacklist underperforming contractors to maintain its station facilities, says Anthony Loke.

The Transport Minister said the management would have to put more attention to ensure better quality of work for the maintenance of the stations.

He said the focus is on promoting a maintenance culture to ensure that damages at stations and train failures are minimised.

"We will focus more on maintenance. The monitoring process (of the contractors) has to be better.

"Management have to put more attention to (the contractors) to ensure better quality of work.

"Contractors who cannot perform have to be blacklisted," he said to reporters at the Prasana 2023 Performance and Future Plans report.

When asked whether they have blacklisted any contractors, Loke said: "It is very hard to pinpoint to any particular contractor because there are multiple contractors in different stations."

Prasarana has been improving facilities in its stations since 2022 to further close the gap and achieve 100 per cent service availability and a three- day facilities recovery by the third quarter of this year.

As of Dec 31, 98.1 per cent of lifts, 99.5 per cent escalators and 94.6 per cent of toilets are now available to be used in stations.
