One of two leaking control valves successfully replaced

BUTTERWORTH: One of two leaking control valves at the Sungai Dua Water Treatment Plant (WTP) has been successfully replaced at about 10am today.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow announced the matter with several accompanying photos on his Facebook page today.

"Works to replace the two (units) leaking control valves, each measuring 1,200mm, at the Sungai Dua WTP started according to schedule at 6am this morning.

"Water works and preventive maintenance projects at 22 other locations are also currently ongoing," he said.

Chow said, as the Sungai Dua WTP has been shut down, the Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) is committed to providing updates from time to time on the development of the works being done.

He also noted that Selangor and Melaka have agreed to deploy nine water tanks to assist Penang during this scheduled water supply interruption (SWSI).

"The state government is moved by the assistance and we hope to overcome this challenging period together as one," he added.

This shutdown caused SWSI, affecting about 590,000 consumers in Seberang Prai and Penang Island.

During a visit to the Sungai Dua WTP yesterday, Chow had reminded PBAPP to prioritise three key matters on its "to do list" with regard to the four-day water supply disruption beginning today.

The three included to get the engineering work done in 24 hours, to stick to the water supply recovery schedule and to keep the public informed.
