Cabinet condemns attack on Beruas MP's home

PUTRAJAYA: The cabinet today condemned the attack on the home of Beruas member of Parliament Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham in Ayer Tawar, Perak, early this morning.

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the public was reminded to act according to the law, including in managing differences of opinion.

"Do not provoke or incite hate, especially if you have differing opinions.

"Any act that goes against the law will be dealt with by the authorities," he told a press conference today.

It was reported that the house and three vehicles belonging to Ngeh had caught fire, believed to be the result of a Molotov cocktail early this morning.

The Perak Fire and Rescue Department deputy director (operations) Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said personnel from the Ayer Tawar Fire Station were dispatched to the location after receiving an emergency call at 3.05am.

Later in a press conference, Ngeh said he believed the suspected arson at his house could be caused by his media statement issued on Dec 28 last year.

Recently, the DAP MP gained widespread attention after he proposed that non-Muslims be included in the special committee to study the powers of the Syariah Court.

However, he later apologised and withdrew the proposal after being criticised by various parties.
