Property firm sacks agent for racial discrimination

KUALA LUMPUR: Property firm Juwai IQI has teminated an employment of an agent for turning away a potential customer due to her race.

FMT reported the firm's co-founder and chief executive officer Kashif Ansari as saying that the real estate agent had "acknowledged his wrongdoings" and "accepted the facts of the case".

"Consequently, he is being terminated and he will soon receive his formal notification via e-mail," Kashif told FMT.

Earlier, X (formerly Twitter) user @kalvinderks_ alleged that an agent with the form had discriminated against Indians and Punjabis.

She said the agent's response to her enquiry was initially fine, but he was rude after learning her name and race.

Juwai IQI then apologised and said it would conduct an immediate and thorough internal investigation into the complaint.

Stating that its staff and agents come from all walks of life, the firm said that it would not tolerate any form of discrimination.

"We have zero tolerance towards discrimination and racism and will act in the strongest manner against it," it said on X.
