Tech Dome Penang now offering club memberships for students

PENANG: Deputy Chief Minister II Jagdeep Singh Deo launched the Science Superstar Club by Tech Dome Penang today. The club is aimed at students aged six to 15 years old.

Buletin Mutiara, in a report, revealed that Tech Dome Penang, established in 2016, introduced this club membership to provide an opportunity for students to share a common passion for science and technology. Jagdeep announced that Tech Dome Penang is offering a special promotional membership fee of RM50 with an annual RM30 renewal fee.

"As a member of Science Superstars, you will enjoy various privileges, including unlimited entry into Tech Dome Penang for a year, a complimentary T-shirt, and a personalised badge," Jagdeep was quoted as saying during a press conference after chairing the centre's first board of directors meeting for this year at his office in Komtar.

He added that members will also enjoy early bird access to all of Tech Dome's workshops and activities, special members-only activities, and exclusive membership merchandise.

According to Jagdeep, the main priority for Tech Dome is to attract students to the field of science and technology.

"More than 1.25 million visitors have visited Tech Dome Penang (including special activities) facilities since 2016.

"We have conducted 2,050 STEM workshops, involving 400,000 students from 200 schools in Penang and another 200 schools throughout Peninsular Malaysia. We are ramping up our efforts with more aggressive programmes. We work very closely with the Federal Government as well, especially the ministry, which has supported us in most of our programmes. We hope to sustain this collaboration," Jagdeep added.

He noted that although Penang is a small state, it contributes 5 per cent of the world's semiconductor products, earning it the moniker "the Silicon Valley of the East."

Jagdeep commended Tech Dome Penang CEO Khoo Boo Wooi and his team, including marketing manager Oun Sui Leng, and marketing executives Timothy Keong Wei Yang and Noor Hafiza Hasram, along with the board of directors, for their invaluable contributions.

For 2024, Jagdeep said Tech Dome Penang has planned various programmes, including improving its exhibits, setting up an astronomy learning centre, conducting a Climate Action Show (dealing with climate crisis), organising a Science Safari event, and exploring the setting up of solar panels at Tech Dome.
