RM3mil allocation by Agriculture and Food Security Ministry to boost Johor's rice industry

TANGKAK: The Agriculture and Food Security Ministry is set to channel an allocation of RM3 million to spearhead "Pelan Pembangunan Industri Padi dan Beras: Periuk Nasi Selatan".

According to Media Digital Johor, the federal government and state government, under the Johor 2024 Budget, is committed to enhancing rice production.

This commitment is manifested through the initiative of the "Pelan Pembangunan Industri Padi dan Beras: Periuk Nasi Selatan", aiming to ensure a sustainable and secure food supply while fostering economic growth in the region.

The announcement was made by Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu during his visit to the rice planting project site at Homestay Anjung Sawah, Kampung Sawah Ring, Tangkak on Feb 5.

"Expressing gratitude for the efforts of the Johor state government led by Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, the Chief Minister of Johor, the ministry anticipates that this plan will elevate the productivity of rice fields in Johor from four to six metric tonnes per hectare," Media Digital Johor said.

During the visit, a 'mock cheque' of RM531,000 was also presented for the Phase 2 Cash Assistance Program 2023, benefiting 885 rice farmers in the state.

Additionally, 50 food baskets were distributed to farmers, planters, and breeders in the Sawah Ring area.
