Shenzhen-bound flight returns to KLIA over technical issue

KUALA LUMPUR: An AirAsia aircraft bound for Shenzhen, China, was believed to have suffered technical issues, prompting it to return to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

The flight, AK122, departed KLIA at 4.53pm today before returning back to the airport a little over an hour later at 6.06pm.

Checks on FlightRadar24 saw the aircraft committed to a holding pattern above the Strait of Malacca not long after it took off, before making its way back to KLIA.

Civil Aviation Authority Malaysia chief executive officer Captain Datuk Norazman Mahmud, when contacted, said the aircraft had some technical issues, but he did not reveal any further detail.

"AirAsia just responded. (There were) some technical issues with the aircraft. The details (on the issues), I will have to wait for the report," he told the New Straits Times briefly.

As at press time, the NST has reached out to the airline.
