SAR to locate 3 siblings swept away by water surge ongoing

TAPAH: The search and rescue operation to locate three siblings, who were swept away by a water surge tragedy at Sungai Kampung Poh, Bidor, still ongoing.

The siblings are identified as Hanum Marissa Azam 2; Hafiy Muhayat Azam, 4; and Hanna Mikayla Azam, 7. Their mother, Aszura Bani, 37, died in the incident.

Another three victims were reported to be safe and were identified as Aslinda Bani, 38; Hernani, 33, also an Indonesian; and Muhammad Adam Muqrish Rozi, 11.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department director Sayani Saidon said so far a woman had died in the incident, and three children aged between two and seven were still missing.

"The first body was found at 4.30pm by villagers, about one kilometre from where she was last seen.

"The second and third victims, also an adult woman and an Indonesian woman were found safe," she said.

Sayani added that a total of 17 firemen were involved in the operation and they had also dispatched a K-9 unit to assist in the operation.

"The rain has stopped and the river water trend is still cloudy, but has started to recede.

"The search and rescue operation involves searching along the river starting from the location of the incident to the downstream of the river," she said.

Earlier, it was reported that a woman had died in a water surge incident while having a picnic with her six family members.
