Civil servants still fear Padu - Zahid

PUTPUTRAJAYA: Concerns about personal data not being protected is believed to be one of the reasons why the number of registrations among the rural and regional ministry (KKDW) officers in the Central Database System (Padu) is still low.

Its minister, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, said only 33.4 per cent of the 24,471 members of the ministry and its agencies were registered in the system.

"Yes, indeed. So far, 33.4 per cent of KKDW officers and staff have registered with Padu.

"But we are working on it... in the middle of this month, we will initiate activities to ensure that 100 per cent of KKDW officers will register with Padu," he said to reporters after the KKDW monthly meeting.

Yesterday, chief statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said only 2.69 million out of 30.8 million Malaysians had updated their information in the Padu system.

When asked why the total percentage of Padu registration in KKDW was still low, Zahid said his party had a certain way to resolve the issue.

"Perhaps there is a lack of awareness. Some also feel that the personal details are not kept private, but we have a certain way so that everything can be resolved because it (Padu) is all for our mutual benefit," he said.

Launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Jan 2, Padu consolidates data from various government agencies under one roof.

It stands as one of the outcomes of the Madani government's new approach, showcasing agile implementation and the collective efforts of the entire government.

The implementation of Padu is to improve management efficiency that facilitates collecting, storing, and managing data from various sources.
