IGP confirms Taib Mahmud in KL for medical treatment

KUCHING: Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain has confirmed that former Yang di-Pertua Sarawak Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud is receiving medical treatment at a private hospital in Kuala Lumpur.

He said the police report circulating on social media since last Sunday is authentic, and the case is being investigated under Section 336 of the Penal Code.

However, he clarified that the situation does not involve an abduction but rather concerns actions that may pose a threat to Abdul Taib's health.

"There is no term 'abducted' because it was his former State Governor's wife who transported him to and from the hospital.

"The investigation papers were also submitted to the Sarawak State Prosecution Office on Feb 9, and we await further instructions."

Razarudin urged the public not to disseminate false information that could lead to unwarranted speculation.

Previously, it was reported that Taib, who was discharged from Normah Medical Specialist Centre in Kuching last week, is now said to be in Kuala Lumpur.

Sources said the 87-year-old was brought to the capital city via a special flight yesterday afternoon.
