Police hunt suspect in Pagoh traffic altercation

KUALA LUMPUR: Police are currently looking for the suspect believed to be involved in a traffic altercation on the North-South Expressway in Pagoh, Johor.

Muar police chief Assistant Commissioner Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said checks showed the suspect was obstructed from using the emergency lane, leading to the untoward situation.

He said efforts to apprehend the suspect are underway to assist the investigation.

"The case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of imprisonment for up to two years or a fine, or both.

"This case will also be investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act and Section 53(1) of the Road Transport Act 1959, which is punishable under Section 119(2) of the Road Transport Act 1987 with a fine of up to RM2,000 or imprisonment for four months," he said in a statement tonight.

Police have also advised the public not to indulge in speculation that could undermine harmony and disrupt public safety.

"The police will not compromise on any criminal offenses. Strict action will be taken in accordance with existing laws."

Previously, it was reported that the Muar district police said the incident occurred at KM139.6 of the North-South Expressway in Pagoh at about 1.58pm today.

In the 54-second clip, the video shared on Info Kemalangan/Jenayah Terkini Seluruh Malaysia Facebook page, showed a man driving his red Mitsubishi sedan, seemingly trying to knock over another man, dressed in a white T-shirt and jeans.
