Hunt continues: 30 undocumented foreign detainees still on the run in Tapah

TAPAH: The remaining 30 undocumented foreign detainees who escaped from the Bidor Temporary Immigration Detention Centre on Thursday, Feb 1, are still being pursued by the police and immigration authorities here.

Tapah District Police Chief, Superintendent Mohd Naim Asnawi, said the total arrests so far remain at 99 individuals who have been successfully apprehended during the integrated operation until 12.30 pm today.

He said the operation to track down the remaining detainees involving police and immigration personnel would continue to capture those still at large.

"So far, a total of 99 detainees who escaped from the said detention centre have been successfully apprehended by the police and immigration authorities with the cooperation of the public.

"The operation to track down and capture the remaining detainees continues and never stops, even during festive holidays or weekends," he said when contacted today.

On Feb 1, a total of 131 undocumented foreign nationals, including Rohingya, Myanmar, and Bangladeshi ethnicities, fled from the Bidor Temporary Immigration Detention Center in an incident that occurred at 9.50 pm.

Meanwhile, two of them died in a road accident while attempting to escape.
