Holiday returners face slow traffic on Plus Highway, Karak-KL Expressway

KUALA LUMPUR: Traffic flow on major highways leading into the city is reported to be slow moving, with some traffic congestion reported on a few stretches on Plus Highway.

As of 5.30pm today, no major accidents have been reported in both directions, Plus-North as well as Plus-South.

A Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) spokesman said traffic was slow moving on Karak-Kuala Lumpur highway, nearing the Gombak Toll Plaza from Genting Sempah and Bentong.

"A 13km crawl is reported on the Kuala Lumpur-Karak highway from Km74.8 heading towards Kuala Lumpur as holiday makers return from the long Chinese New Year holidays, ahead of work tomorrow.

"On the North-South Expressway (PLUS), from the north towards the Klang Valley, traffic is also slow-moving and congested from Bandar Ainsdale towards Sungai Besi.

"There is also some congestion from Changkat Jering towards Kuala Kangar, Ulu Bernam towards Rawang and at a few stretch near Simpang Pulai as well as Seberang Jaya.

"Generally, the traffic situation is under control although these hours are said to be the peak hours for people returning to the city," he said.

He said the same slow moving traffic pattern is also seen in traffic from the southern states towards city centre, with some congestion reported from Yong Peng towards Jason and Sedenak to Pagoh.

He said the traffic situation is expected to ease slightly later, after about 8pm onwards.
