Umno Youth chief tells DAP Raub MP to "dream on" over calls for him to apologise

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh has refused to submit to demands for him to issue an apology to Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming.

In his response to the calls made by Raub member of Parliament Chow Yu Hui of DAP, Dr Akmal told the former to dream on.

"You want me to issue an apology? Keep dreaming because it will never happen.

"They are the ones who issued the statement.

"When the statement was frowned upon, then acted as if they were the victims to the situation," wrote Dr Akmal in a post on his Facebook last night.

The social media posting was accompanied by a screenshot of a news of Chow demanding Dr Akmal to issue an apology to Nga over the issues surrounding the minister's proposal to nominate Chinese new villages or Kampung Baru Cina in Selangor as a Unesco World Heritage Site.

In the same posting, Dr Akmal also issued a reminder against people trying to touch on issues sensitive to the Malays and Bumiputera community

"Let me repeat this once again, do not ever touch issues sensitive to the Malays and the Bumiputera community.

"If so, we will not hesitate to go against you no matter who you are," he said.

The matter surrounding Nga's proposal has been a thorny issue among parties aligned in the unity government, particularly between Umno and DAP.

Nga had previously said that he would be meeting Umno leaders to discuss the proposal.

This follows statements from several Umno leaders who claimed the proposal touched on the position of the Malay-Bumiputera community.

Deputy Prime Minister and Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had said that he has never received any calls from Nga over the proposal.

Zahid had also said that the statement made by the party's secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki over the matter is the official stance of the party.

Asyraf, in a statement said Umno rejected the proposal, stating that the implications were too big and indirectly affected the Malay-Bumiputera position in the country.

He claimed the matter was against the Federal Constitution, which only recognised the Bumiputera as original residents with certain rights.
