Ex-PM goes back to school

KUALA LUMPUR: Former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob is going back to school.

Ismail Sabri, who is also former Umno vice-president, said he had begun his student days again at Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) after sharing a picture of his brand new student identification card on his Facebook today.

"Alhamdulillah, today I received a student card. Officially, today I became a student.

"Didn't expect to still be a student at this age. This is what they call lifelong learning," he said on his Facebook page today.

When contacted by New Straits Times, Ismail Sabri's office had confirmed that he is pursuing his doctor of philosophy (PhD) on Covid-19 policy response.

NST also sighted Ismail Sabri's colloquium session, which showed the title of his thesis: 'The formation of a responsive policy model to face the Covid-19 pandemic in Malaysia'.

On the UUM official Facebook page, the university took a screenshot of Ismail Sabri's posting and congratulated the former prime minister.

His comment section also was filled with congratulatory messages and also some light banters from his social media followers.

"Study hard, Datuk, don't skip classes," Akmar Kamarul said.

User Mohd Rizuan also jokingly asked the former prime minister whether the latter would be joining the university's induction programme.
