No motion of confidence against PM, says Dewan Rakyat Speaker

KUALA LUMPUR: The Dewan Rakyat Speaker's Office has not received any motion of no confidence against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for the coming Dewan Rakyat sitting.

"There are none (motion of no confidence) so far," Dewan Rakyat speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul told Harian Metro.

Previously, Anwar challenged the opposition to bring a vote of no confidence in the Dewan Rakyat if they planned to topple the government.

This came amid claims from some opposition leaders that Anwar had lost his majority as they had enough statutory declarations (SDs) from members of Parliament to overthrow the unity government.

Anwar has since described such claims as baseless and that it showed their desperation to come to power.

For the record, Anwar enjoys two-thirds majority support in the Dewan Rakyat. Aside from MPs who are part of the unity coalition, the Tambun MP also has the support of six Perikatan Nasional MPs.

The six who have pledged their support for Anwar are Bukit Gantang MP Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal, Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjong Karang), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar) and Datuk Dr Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan).
