Nga: Unity the keystone of national resilience

PUTRAJAYA: Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming said it is essential to maintain harmony and unity in society as the bedrock of a nation's strength.

He said this was needed especially in navigating challenges and overcoming obstacles on the path to national success.

"In facing the myriad challenges of today, the spirit of harmony and unity in society remains pivotal for the strength of any nation.

"As we celebrate the Chinese New Year, symbolising strength, success, nobility and honour in the Year of the Dragon, we aspire for these values to endure among our people," he said during the ministry's Chinese New Year celebration, Madani Muhibah.

Nga said the Madani Muhibah event's purpose was to commemorate unity among Malaysians and within the ministry's community, serving as a catalyst for progress.

"It serves as a driving force for the team to advance the ministry towards greater effectiveness in delivering quality government services to the people.

"Our focus areas for 2024 include people's welfare as our top priority, Infrastructure for enhanced public happiness, sustainable urban planning, and responsive local government."

He also reiterated that the ministry would continue to be committed to supporting all government efforts in developing a more sustainable and livable homeland.

"As a multi-ethnic country, the spirit of unity in diversity and mutual respect needs to be consistently practised to foster a sense of care and compassion for the prosperity of the nation, becoming a social and cultural norm."

Among present at the event were Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu, Deputy Energy Transition and Public Utilities Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir and Deputy Religious Affairs Minister Dr Zulkifli Hasan.
