Salleh Keruak: Opposition should also take blame for falling ringgit

KUALA LUMPUR: Usukan assemblyman Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak has called on the opposition to take a fair share of the blame for the decline of the ringgit and the current state of the economy.

In a Facebook post today, he said if the opposition continuously expresses intentions to oust or change the current government to the foreign press, it will inevitably cast a negative image of the country.

This, he said, will affect foreign investors' confidence and deter foreign investment.

"Political stability is the key to foreign investors' confidence in the country and hence the impact of foreign exchange on our local currency.

"Therefore, the opposition should also take a fair share of the blame for the fall of our ringgit as well as the current state of the economy," he said.

Salleh, who is also the former Sabah chief minister, called on the opposition to refrain from using foreign media to undermine political stability and sabotage the economy while placing blame solely on the current government.

Yesterday, a PKR Youth leader hit out at Bersatu vice president Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin for his criticisms of the government over the sliding ringgit.

PKR Youth communications director Haziq Azfar said Radzi's narrative of the ringgit was "distorted" and raised the issue of Perikatan Nasional's (PN) apparent failure in managing the economy when it was in power.

In a recent video posted on social media, Radzi accused the government of not being serious about tackling the falling ringgit.

Radzi said that the value of the ringgit has plummeted to its lowest point in history in relation to the Singapore dollar.

Last December, Community Communications Department deputy director Datuk Ismail Yusop claimed that opposition leaders and government MPs had met in Dubai to discuss overthrowing the government.
