Sabah records 305 bush fires this year, with significant increase in February

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah recorded 305 bush fires as of yesterday, this year.

According to the state Fire and Rescue department, it recorded 76 incidents, involving nine farms, 27 forests, and 40 involving bushes in January.

The number of incidents increased fourfold for the first three weeks in February.

Firemen were fighting 277 fires, including 13 at farms, 75 forests and 189 bushes.

According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) website, there was no heat wave phenomenon in Sabah yet.

As of yesterday, only Kota Belud and Beaufort were marked as Level 1, where the maximum temperature could reach between 35- and 37-degree Celsius for three continuous days.
