Report: Tourism Malaysia DG claims he's been removed from his post

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Ammar Abd Ghapar, the director-general of the Malaysian Tourism Promotion Board (Tourism Malaysia), has been removed from his post as of Monday.

The Malay Mail, in its report, quoted Ammar as saying that he had received a letter from Tourism, Arts, and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing this morning informing him of the move.

"The letter just says effective February 26, I am no longer the D-G. It does not say anything else. Transferred to where, holding what post, what grade.

"I have no intention of going against any directive or instructions given to me... but I feel very frustrated and sad. I think that after serving for 36 years, (with) the experiences that I have got, I should not be treated this way," he was quoted as saying.

The report said Ammar, who became Tourism Malaysia director-general on Apr 12 last year, is slated for retirement on Feb 17 next year.

The New Straits Times is contacting Tiong for a response.
