JSPT to probe police outrider's action in viral video [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: The action of a police outrider in trying to abruptly stop traffic, including a heavy vehicle, have received negative reactions from netizens.

Federal Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) director Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri, when contacted, said they are taking note of the incident.

"JSPT will investigate the incident, including in term of compliance with the standard operating procedures," he said.

The incident went viral after a 35-second video, believed to be recorded by the dashboard camera of the said heavy vehicle, was uploaded on social media.

Social media users in general described the action of the traffic policeman as dangerous, considering that heavy vehicles generally require suitable stopping distance.

The action to abruptly stop the vehicles is feared would cause road accidents or worse, fatalities.

Based on the date on the recording, the incident is believed to have occurred last Tuesday at the exit ramp of a highway, showing the traffic policeman stopping two motorcycles and a heavy vehicle, believed to be a lorry.

The video, which has been circulating since yesterday, has now garnered millions of views on social media platforms.
