Other regional currencies also depreciating against US dollar, says Anwar

KUALA SELANGOR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar said other regional currencies besides the ringgit are also declining in value against the US dollar.

"The problem of the ringgit declining in value is also affecting the Japanese yen, Chinese renminbi, and all other Asean currencies except for Singapore's."

He said despite the fall in the value of the ringgit, Malaysia's inflation rate had decreased to 1.5 per cent and investment had increased by 23 per cent to RM 329.5 billion last year.

"Within Asean, Malaysia recorded one of the lowest inflation rates at 1.5 per cent and a 35 per cent decrease in unemployment.

"Domestic and foreign investment, on the other hand, are at their highest in Malaysia's history since independence," he said during his speech at the closing ceremony of the Central Zone Madani Rakyat programme at the Kuala Selangor Sports Complex here today.

Present were Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad and other ministers.

Earlier, it was reported that the country recorded approved investment totalling RM 329.5 billion last year, which is 23 per cent higher than in 2022, making it the highest in history.

Foreign investment accounted for 57.2 per cent of this amount and doomestic investment made up the remainder.
