Sarawak set to complete takeover of Bintulu Port in June

KUCHING: The Sarawak government is on track to finalise the acquisition of the Bintulu Port Authority from the Federal Government by June this year, marking a significant shift in control of one of the state's key maritime assets, the Sarawak Public Communications Unit reported.

Sarawak state chief secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki announced that the takeover process is approximately 70 per cent complete and is pending parliamentary proceedings. While specifics of the remaining hurdles were not disclosed, the enthusiasm for the imminent transfer was clear.

"Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg will provide detailed updates on the progress of this takeover," Marzuki said, highlighting the strategic importance of the port to Sarawak's economic and logistical framework.

The announcement came during the Bintulu Port Media Appreciation Event, underscoring the state's readiness to assume full control of the port's operations. Marzuki, who also chairs the Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad, expressed confidence in Sarawak's preparedness for this transition.
