MACC still waiting for Mirzan, Mokhzani asset declarations

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has yet to receive notice of declaration of assets from the two sons of former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Its chief commissioner, Tan Sri Azam Baki, today said Mirzan Mahathir and Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir had been given a 30-day extension to the deadline for them to do so.

"We have to receive (the notice of the asset declaration from Mirzan and Mokhzani)," he told reporters after attending the National Anti-Corruption Summit 2024 here.

Last week, Azam said Mokhzani was given another 30 days to declare his assets as his portfolio was extensive.

"Based on the briefing by the investigation officer in-charge of the case, I believe that the extension is necessary.

"This is because the assets involved are many and he (Mokhzani) needed more time to obtain the documents and details of the accounts involved.

"Furthermore, we received good cooperation from Mokhzani as well as from (Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's other son) Mirzan to assist our investigation into the case," Azam was quoted as saying.
