Gaza: 30,000 dead and still the international community fails to compel ceasefire, says Palestinian ambassador to Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Some 1.7 million people have been forced out their homes, 30,000 people have been killed and another 70,000 wounded, but there is still no end in sight of the suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza.

Palestinian ambassador to Malaysia Walid Abu Ali said this was a failure on the part of the international community.

While thanking Malaysia for its intervention efforts in calling for an immediate halt to the ongoing violence and continuous humanitarian aid, he called out certain other members of the United Nations.

Walid said Palestine continues to be treated with double standards by these countries.

"Where should we go, from here? Palestinians have nowhere to go anymore and without unanimous pressure from the International community to an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, Israel will not stop its attacks on Gaza.

"The people of Palestine only have two demands, unconditional ceasefire and proper food and medical supply for its people but to no avail," he said on the Ahf News & Media blog channel.

Detailing the Israeli attacks, Walid said the bombings in Gaza began in the north of the Strip and Palestinians were told to move south.

Hundreds of thousand were displaced due to this, moving south in the mistaken belief that they would be safer. Yet the Israelis attacked the southern half of the Gaza Strip as well and continue to do so.

The ambassador, however, said the conflict was something which did not start on Oct 7 last year, when Hamas attacked Israel.

This, he said, began decades ago, when Israel was formed in 1948 on Palestinian land.

The talk show, hosted by Amir Hijaz Abdul Malek, also featured Datuk Jailani Harun, the diplomatic adviser to Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Walid also took the opportunity to thank Zahid for a personal donation of US$200,000 to the Al-Aqsa Mosque when one of the Israeli attacks destroyed the entrance of the mosque in the past.
