Reduce exposure to hot weather, Health DG warns

PETALING JAYA: The public is advised to reduce exposure to hot weather to avoid the risk of heat stroke.

Director-General of Health, Datuk Dr Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan said the public is advised to avoid exposure to hot weather and refrain from outdoor activities.

"If necessary to be outside, they are advised to wear appropriate clothing to avoid exposure to the hot weather during this time," he said.

Asked about the Ministry of Health's advice to schools for the upcoming school sessions starting next week, Dr. Muhammad Radzi said parents and children are at risk.

"Reduce exposure to hot weather and increase water intake," he said.

He said appropriate clothing is also important to reduce the risk of heat stroke among high-risk groups.

Checks on MetMalaysia show that a number of areas in the north have been experiencing high temperatures over the last three days.

Temperatures in Pokok Sena soared between 37 to 40 degrees celcius, while temperatures in Perlis, Langkawi and Kubang Pasu hovered between 35 to 37 degrees celcius.
