'No-subsidy' petrol stations mulled for foreign drivers

BACHOK: Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) is planning to set up two petrol stations that will not be offering subsidised fuel to foreign motorists soon.

Kelantan KPDN director Azman Ismail said the move was to prevent the leakage of the subsidised petrol and diesel.

He said the two stations would be opened in Jeli and Rantau Panjang.

"We are now waiting for approval from the Finance Ministry.

"Once it is approved, Kelantan will have two outlets that will be gazetted as 'petrol stations with no subsidy'.

"With these stations, foreign motorists are banned from filling up fuel at other stations," he told reporters after launching 'Raja Perfume of Malaysia' new product here today.

Azman said so far, only Padang Besar in Perlis has such petrol station.

He said the state KPDN has recorded 40 cases of smuggling diesel and petrol since early this year with the arrest of 40 suspected smugglers.

"During the period, about RM800,000 worth of fuel and vehicles were seized from the smugglers," he said.
