KUALA LUMPUR: A "wang hantaran" of RM50,000 designed into a cake-shaped arrangement amused netizens who witnessed a couple's engagement ceremony.
Recounting the story, the younger brother of the groom, Naraynawate Otoh, 24, said that the arrangement was specially made for his brother's engagement, which took place on Feb 24 in Batu Putih, Sandakan, Sabah.
"The bride-to-be requested that the money be arranged in the shape of a cake.
"My brother, Nur Izz Abdullah, 25, and his fiancée, Ruziana Mohammad, 26, will be getting married at the end of the year," he said.
According to him, his brother, who works in China, has been in a long-term relationship with Ruziana, who owns a bundle business.
"Actually, the bride-to-be's side only requested RM20,000 as the 'wang hantaran', but my brother decided to give RM50,000 as a gift as they have been through thick and thin together.
"My brother's fiancée has been very helpful financially while he was studying to obtain an offshore licence.
Describing the arrangement, Naraynawate said that it took him and three of his friends a day to complete it.
He also did not expect the video of the arrangement to go viral on social media, being shared by thousands of people and garnering 1.5 million views.
