Machang MP alleges Khazanah and EPF intend to sell MAHB stake

KUALA LUMPUR: Machang member of Parliament Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal claimed that Khazanah Nasional Bhd (Khazanah) and the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) plan to sell their stake in Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) to Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) and BlackRock.

Ahmad Fahysal said Khazanah and EPF will form a global consortium with GIP to acquire a stake in MAHB.

"GIP is fully owned by BlackRock, the world's largest asset manager and Lockheed Martin, who supplies arms that kill the Palestinians.

"I request a commitment from Wisma Putra and government backbenchers to collectively oppose the approach made by Khazanah and EPF to sell their stake in MAHB to GIP by BlackRock," he said.

However, the Foreign Ministry refuted the claims, saying they have yet to receive any information on the matter.

Its deputy minister Datuk Mohamad Alamin told the Dewan Rakyat that the ministry would take necessary action based on the ministry's jurisdiction.

"If that area falls under the Wisma Putra, we will gather views from all agencies involved.

"For example, in Ops Ihsan, many non-governmental organisations have come forward to help, we will conduct screening, gather recommendations and consider views from all agencies, if there is official information, we will provide input from our jurisdiction," he said.

Meanwhile, Wisma Putra also assured that Malaysia will continue to voice out views and arguments condemning Israel's actions towards Palestine.

Mohamad Alamin said Malaysia will persist in voicing concerns on global platforms like the United Nations (UN) and Asean.

He added that Malaysia will also provide input for stronger measures, including potential membership suspensions from international bodies.

"Given their affiliation with these organisations, we will remain engaged (on global platforms), similar to what South Africa has done in the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

"We will provide feedback and views so that the ICJ takes decisive action against Israel," he said.

He was responding to Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh (PH - Ledang) who asked whether Malaysia would support initiatives to suspend Israel's membership from international bodies such as the UN, the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Fifa and others.
