Service tax hike: All 'quiet' on the Penang consumer front

BUTTERWORTH: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry has not received any complaints from consumers since the service tax was increased on March 1.

State director S. Jegan said a ministry team is monitoring the situation.

"Everything is under control. We have not found any issues or received any complaints.

"Our team will continue to conduct checks. We also urge those with any complaints to come to us so we can act on them immediately.

"As for businesses, we want to remind them to adhere to the tax ruling, failing which action will be taken against them," he said after the launch of the Jualan Ihsan Rahmah 'Back to School' programme at AEON Big, Seberang Jaya here.

The government had increased the service tax from six per cent to eight per cent effective March 1.
