Tuan Ibrahim calls for Gombak, Karak tolls to be abolished

KUALA LUMPUR: An opposition member of Parliament has urged the government to abolish the Gombak and Karak tolls to ease congestion on the East Coast Expressway (LPT).

Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man (PN-Kubang Kerian) said the Gombak toll, one of the oldest in the country, should be abolished first.

"LPT users need to pass four toll plazas, to ease the burden on users, only two entry and exit points should be used," he said in the Dewan Rakyat during the motion of thanks for the royal address.

He said there was no need for the Gombak and Karak toll plazas as they slowed down traffic and caused congestion.

Tuan Ibrahim said he believed all tolls in the country should be abolished.

Separately, Tuan Ibrahim raised concerns about the insufficient number of electric vehicle charging stations in the country.

"In August 2023, government data revealed there were only 1,246 charging stations along the highway network.

"I have received numerous complaints, particularly regarding the scarcity of charging stations along the LPT," he said.
