No distress call from MMEA chopper before emergency landing

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) helicopter that made an emergency landing near Pulau Angsa in Selangor did not issue any distress calls.

In a statement, Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) Chief Executive Officer Datuk Captain Norazman Mahmud said the last contact the helicopter made with air traffic control was at 9.20am, some 10 minutes after it had taken off for a training exercise.

Earlier today, it was reported that the AgustaWestland AW139 helicopter made an emergency landing in the waters off Pulau Angsa. There were no casualties.

All four MMEA personnel on board the helicopter were rescued by fishermen.

Norazman said CAAM is probing the incident.
