YAN: A hay roll fortress, erected as a tourist attraction in Jalan Pulau Bunting, Kampung Sungai Kering, was destroyed as it was engulfed in flames today.
Fortunately, no one were harmed in the fire, as there were no visitors present when the incident occurred.
Yan Fire and Rescue Department chief Noorhamidi Ali said that a team was dispatched to the scene upon receiving distress calls at 1.10 pm.
"Upon arrival, firemen found only the hay roll structure was ablaze, and firefighting operations were immediately initiated," he said in a statement today.
He said that the fire was successfully contained at 1.21 pm.
"Investigations into the fire involving the hay roll structure are currently ongoing.
"The intense heat and strong winds fueled the rapid spread of the fire," he added.
