One killed, four injured in Temerloh car crash

TEMERLOH: A woman, 36, was killed after the car she was travelling in with four others crashed into a tree stump on the road shoulder at Km8 of Jalan Jerantut-Temerloh here yesterday.

She suffered severe head injuries and died while receiving treatment at Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital here at 8.15pm, some four hours after the accident.

The four others, including the 29-year-old Honda City driver, sustained injuries in the 4.35pm accident and are being treated at the hospital.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mazlan Hassan said investigations revealed the five victims, who are related to each other, were travelling from Jerantut towards Mentakab near here.

"The driver is believed to have lost control of the vehicle before it veered into the oncoming lane and crashed into a tree stump. The vehicle ended up in the nearby drain.

"He suffered injuries to his mouth and legs, while three rear seat passengers, including a toddler, suffered bruises and cuts," he said in a statement today.

Mazlan said the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Meanwhile, state Fire and Rescue Department public relations officer Zulfadli Zakaria said five firemen from the Temerloh fire station were deployed to the scene and found the driver trapped in the mangled vehicle.
