APM finds minor cases of abuse of power during recruitment activities

BANGI: The Civil Defence Forces (APM) has admitted to minor cases of abuse of power involving high-ranking officials during its officer recruitment activities.

Civil Defence Force (APM) chief commissioner Datuk Aminurrahim Mohamed however said the officials have since been reprimanded accordingly.

He said these officers who abused their power were usually conferred by the forces due to their position in certain entities.

"There are occurrences of people in conferred positions (Ahli Kehormat) abusing their position. We are giving our attention to the matter.

"For example, during the recruitment of officers, for sure (these officers) want a 'Captain", or a "Lieutenant" (in their team) so maybe they offer something (to the people they are recruiting) and say if they are willing to give the commitment, they will get the position.

"We have suspended a few officers and given them a stern reminder. Usually after giving the reminder, they will resign from their positions," he said to reporters at the inauguration ceremony of the Civil Defence month in conjunction with the Civil Defence day and the 72nd anniversary of the Civil Defence Force.

Aminurrahim however didn't specify what was offered during the recruitment process in exchange for the positions.

He was responding to media inquiries of the occurences of officers abusing their position or uniform.

He said all officials in conferred positions will receive a log book filled with the do's and don't when they are in uniform.

Aminurrahim said that these 'occurrences' are still under control adding that those abusing their uniform would also be reprimanded.
