Chief Justice granted audience with Sultan of Brunei

KUALA LUMPUR: Chief Justice Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat who is on a three-day official visit to Brunei was granted an audience with the Sultan of Brunei, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, yesterday.

In a statement published by the Brunei Information Department, Tengku Maimun, who is on a visit from March 5 until 8, was granted the audience at Istana Nurul Iman.

"Present during the audience were judges from the Malaysia High Court, the Chief Registrar of the Federal Court of Malaysia and the High Commissioner of Malaysia to Brunei Darussalam," the statement read.

Also in attendance was the Chief Justice of Brunei Supreme Court Datuk Steven Chong Wan Oon, Deputy Ministers in the Prime Minister's Department, Judicial Commissioners of the Supreme Court and Acting Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court.

According to the Borneo Bulletin, Tengku Maimun is on a working visit to attend a courtesy call with Brunei's Chief Justice as well as to ink a Memorandum of Judicial Cooperation between the Brunei Supreme Court and the Malaysia Federal Court.

The memorandum provides a platform for both judicial bodies to enhance communication, promote collaborative learning, and foster cooperation initiatives, particularly in the realms of judicial administration, leadership and court governance.
