Nurul Izzah appointed as think tank chairman

KUALA LUMPUR: PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar has been appointed as the new chairman of the think tank Social & Economic Research Initiative (Seri) today.

Her appointment is expected to bring a wealth of experience and expertise in social development, furthering the think tank's commitment to prioritising inequality and social issues.

"She is a distinguished public servant, political activist, and legislator, continuously advocating for economic and social equity for all Malaysians.

"Her focus on vulnerable communities such as the B40 and women has led to projects dedicated to improving their lives, including initiatives like Malaysia's Multidimensional Poverty Index report aimed at assessing socio-economic well-being," the statement read.

Nurul Izzah, the former Permatang Pauh member of parliament, will collaborate closely with the new advisory board members, Dr Jasmine Begum, Chong Kai Wooi, and Professor Sanjeev Krishna, as part of the organisation's restructuring.

"We warmly welcome Nurul Izzah to Seri's team amidst these organisational changes, anticipating the positive impact she will undoubtedly bring to our organisation and the communities we serve.

"We believe her insights and leadership will significantly contribute to our efforts in fostering a more equitable society," the statement added.

Seri stated that the restructuring, which includes appointing experts in various fields, will bolster the organisation's objectives in addressing Malaysia's five main development issues.

"Seri has initiated this restructuring by hosting a Women in the Workforce research forum, coinciding with International Women's Day celebrations.

"This event celebrates women's contributions to the workforce and discusses the key challenges faced by women in employment."
