No need for tribunal, current regulations suffice for civil servants' misconduct- Chief Secretary to Govt

KUALA TERENGGANU: There is no need to for a tribunal to handle cases of civil servants' misconduct as the current regulations are sufficient to deal with the matter, said Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali.

He said such cases would be handled under the Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) 1993.

The tribunal, he said, was previously established under the Public Service Tribunal Act 1977 before being disbanded in 2000.

"The tribunal last convened in July, 1994, and all the cases involved disciplinary cases and misconduct of civil servants handled by the Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) 1993 committee," he told reporters after visiting SMK Sultan Sulaiman for the launch of Terengganu state education transformation pilot ceremony today.

On a separate matter, Zuki said the federal government has approved RM1 billion allocation for development projects under the Education Ministry in the Fourth Rolling Plan.

He said the approved allocation involved 83 projects, including 26 new and 57 ongoing projects.

Zuki added that the Works Ministry has been asked to ensure the projects would be expedited.

He said the government has also called on the government-linked companies (GLCs) to be involved in developing a technology- based education ecosystem.

"The CLC's contribution can reduce dependency on government funds, especially in the technology-based learning infrastructures aspect," he said.
