Sarawak allocates RM4 mil for ICQS Sungai Tujuh upgrades

MIRI: The Sarawak government has announced an allocation of RM4 million for upgrades and improvement works at the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine, and Security (ICQS) Complex in Sungai Tujuh, Miri, the Sarawak Public Communications Unit reported.

This initiative is set to enhance the flow of goods transport and streamline the process for travellers crossing the border, particularly between Malaysia and Brunei.

Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg said government agencies at the ICQS also requested funding for interim renovations while they wait for projects under the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK-13).

"Many people travel from Malaysia to Brunei and vice versa, and the Brunei mega-project to Malaysia has resulted in increased traffic as more people come to Sarawak from Brunei.

"I agree with them, so we should have special lanes, one for Malaysian citizens and another for other nationalities.

"For this purpose, RM4 million has been allocated to upgrade and improve facilities at the ICQS," he said.

Also, Abang Johari disclosed plans to form a technical coordinating team led by Sarawak state chief secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki.

This team will be tasked with overseeing the implementation of enhanced facilities for individuals coming from Brunei, ensuring that both the Sungai Tujuh and Limbang ICQS operate efficiently with the introduction of these special lanes.
