Sabah's Ko-Nelayan to promote digital entrepreneurship in fisheries sector

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Fisheries and Fishermen Development Corporation (Ko-Nelayan) is committed to empowering entrepreneurs through the adoption of e-commerce applications, Sabah Media reported.

This initiative aims not only to expand business opportunities for entrepreneurs but also to stimulate the digital economy.

Ko-Nelayan general manager Yusof Ag Besar highlighted the corporation's dedication to providing technology, optimal solutions, and knowledge to entrepreneurs.

Among the digitalisation efforts is the e-Kan programme, designed to establish a digital marketing gateway for fishery-based products and services, fostering a culture of digital entrepreneurship among Ko-Nelayan's mentored entrepreneurs.

"The e-Kan program aligns with the Sabah Maju Jaya initiative and the Sabah Government's digitalisation strategy, focusing on economic enhancement and exposing entrepreneurs to various methods and techniques for increasing sales and generating additional income online," Yusof said.

Since its inception in 2021, the e-Kan program has successfully trained 175 entrepreneurs in digital entrepreneurship.

This year, 47 new entrepreneurs have managed to create new stores on the e-Kan marketplace platform.

Additionally, Yusof highlighted Ko-Nelayan's special initiative for this year – the Ramadan 2024 campaign through the e-Kan Ramadan 2024 basket, running from March 12 to June 30. This programme is expected to significantly benefit 100 entrepreneurs participating in the scheme, particularly in terms of boosting their sales.

Yusof expressed high hopes for the continued growth and success of the e-Kan platform in aiding entrepreneurs to expand their businesses.

"This initiative will continue to benefit more entrepreneurs and contribute to the country's economic growth," he added.
